This session's discussion of fundamental concepts of mechanical ventilation will increase attendees' understanding of modes of mechanical ventilation and prepare them to manage patient-ventilator interactions. Abnormal patient-ventilator interactions will be presented in a case-based, multidisciplinary approach using cell phone-based polling software to emphasize attendee engagement. Attendees will discuss concepts and will participate in mechanical ventilation scenarios, assessing abnormalities and recommending clinical management strategies to correct patient-ventilator interactions.
