Coma in the ICU is considered a symptom of various diseases. Nevertheless, it is a major determinant of outcome in many ICU patients. Can we increase the likelihood of patients emerging from coma? This session will outline current knowledge on which patients are likely to emerge from coma, research on therapies that may affect emergence, and efforts to change the trajectory of patients with coma.
