He was the president of CHEST, the American College of Chest Physicians from 2020-2021. He is a member of the editorial board of Critical Care Medicine and participated as a Surviving Sepsis Guidelines panelist in 2016 and 2020. He served as a Senior Medical Advisor to the US Department of Health and Human Services' Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority and is a panelist for the NIH COVID-19 Treatment Guidelines.
