This session will cover the management of viruses in surge capacity situations. Appropriate identification, triage, management, and allocation of resources will be addressed, comprising three basic areas: 1) viruses that are considered common but that have pandemic potential (e.g., influenza), 2) vaccine-preventable viruses that have recently had resurgences (especially with declines in vaccination rates), and 3) viruses that are highly lethal in humans. This session will not focus on SARS-CoV-2 but will explore other viruses that clinicians may encounter in practice as demonstrated in recent history.
