The COVID-19 pandemic disproportionally affected adults aged 65 and older in the United States and worldwide. Its impact extended far beyond the high rate of infection in older adults, with clinical implications in the ICU (such as extraordinarily high rates of ICU delirium) as well as ethical/policy implications for the ICU (such as whether age should be considered in triage of scarce ICU resources). In this session, speakers will present data on COVID’s direct impact on older ICU patients and consider how these lessons learned can inform our ICU practice beyond the COVID-19 era.
