As the healthcare environment continues to change and become more complex with additional challenges such as COVID-19, critical care professionals are faced with environmental and emotional challenges. Multiprofessional healthcare workers in ICU settings are at high risk for compassion fatigue, secondary traumatic stress, and ultimately burnout, which can decrease productivity and job satisfaction, and increase turnover, resulting in increased healthcare costs and negative patient outcomes. While systemic issues contribute to overall moral distress and burnout, mindfulness and community-building may improve resilience. The collective wisdom of developing shared strategies of building resilience could be built in to critical care by discussing strategies to improve resilience.
