Acute liver failure in children is rare but devastating. Advances in critical care have dramatically improved survival, both with transplant and with spontaneous survival of the liver. This session will address some of the controversies in managing acute liver failure in children, such as bleeding versus the prothrombotic state, nontransplant management in acute liver failure, and extracorporeal support in acute liver failure.
