Karin Reuter-Rice, PhD, NP, FCCM, FAAN is an Associate Professor in the Duke University School of Nursing, School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics and the Duke Institute for Brain Sciences. Her expertise includes pediatric critical care and brain injury. She is a fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine, American Academy of Nursing, and the National Institutes of Health - Summer Genetics Institute. She is a co-editor of the textbook Pediatric Acute Care: A Guide for Interprofessional Practice and the 2021 recipient of the SCCM Norma J. Shoemaker Nursing Excellence award. Dr. Reuter-Rice’s research pursuits focus on improving the health and quality of life of critically ill and injured children. With a team science approach, National Institutes of Health, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Duke University Center for Applied Genomics, and Industry funding, Dr. Reuter-Rice examines the relationship of symptoms and potential biologic markers that impact outcomes in children with or at risk for brain injury. Her published research findings have been presented internationally. In addition to her research, she also chairs the NC Brain Injury Advisory Councils’ Children & Youth Committee, which supports policies and regulations to improve the lives of children and youth with brain injury.
