Maj (Dr.) Hunninghake currently a Pulmonary & Critical Care attending physician at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio, TX, where he serves as the Chief of the BAMC Simulation Center, Market Representative for Simulation in the San Antonio Market, and the Flight Commander for the Pulmonary, Respiratory, and Hyperbarics Flight of the 959 MDOS Squadron. He earned his Doctorate in Medicine (M.D.) from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 2013. As a recipient of the Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP), he completed both Internal Medicine residency and Pulmonary/Critical Care fellowship as part of the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium (SAUSHEC). He has served as a member and leader on various committees, councils, and boards through American College of Physicians (ACP), American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP), and Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM). In addition to being a staff physician, he is a member of the 59th MDW Pilot Unit as part of the Acute Lung Rescue Team (ALeRT) and Critical Care Air Transport Team (CCATT). Over the course of his career, Maj Hunninghake has been the recipient of several academic and military awards, to include the Roth Leadership Award for Simulation, Provider-of-the-Year award at both the Squadron and Group levels, Col. Donald Null Distinguished Graduating Fellow, Outstanding Fellow Teacher for Internal Medicine, Most Valued Resident Instructor, and Maj. John H. Gillespie Distinguished Graduating Intern. His areas of interest include: clinical skills education, simulation-based training, virtual health, and extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation.
