Connor O’Brien is a board-certified critical care cardiologist working at University of California San Francisco. Dr. O’Brien graduated from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 2012. He went on to complete internal medicine residency, cardiovascular medicine fellowship, and critical care medicine fellowship at Stanford University. After critical care medicine fellowship, he accepted the position of associate director of critical care cardiology at UCSF where he and Dr. Christopher Barnett are developing the critical care cardiology section
Dr. O’Brien has a research background in exosome and microvesicle biology. He is adapting these skills to study biomarkers in critical illness with a focus on the effect that shock states have on circulating mitochondria.
Dr. O’Brien is a board certified echocardiographer and serves as a faculty of critical care ultrasound for the Society of Critical Care Medicine. Dr. O’Brien teaches at the annual critical care ultrasound course, and is a contributing author for the Critical Care Quiz.
