Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) programs vary in the degree of hospital, system, and department/division oversight. Variation in credentialing (how many scans are enough for a portfolio, organ-specific vs. global), the need for archiving, definitions of basic versus advanced critical care POCUS, the need for archiving systems, and best practices for documentation will be reviewed. POCUS is widely used with a wide variability of program maintenance, potentially putting clinicians at medicolegal risk.
