Catheter utilization and central line bloodstream infections have increased exponentially during the stressors our ICUs suffered over the last few years especially in the high acuity ICUs. This presentation will discuss national trends in CLABSI rates and catheter utilization since the pandemic. Evidence based guidelines that go beyond the guidelines in preventing catheter-based infections especially in high acuity specialty ICUs. Identifying higher risk patients' co-morbidities and specialty procedures that predispose them to catheter based infections will be reviewed along with strategies to ameliorate the risk. Steps to engage providers and establish processes to prioritize patient safety initiatives around CLABSI reduction will be demonstrated.
