The latest Randomized Controlled trials will be presented showing the major benefits of early fixation of the severely injured chest wall after blunt trauma. The different classifications of rib fixation devices and the adjunct of Video Assisted Thoracoscopy will be discussed. The true costs and value of rib plating (time, effort, and finances) in the mechanically ventilated patient will be discussed.
