Physiologic Subphenotypes in ARDS: Can They Make a Difference?

Prognostic enrichment in ARDS involves selecting patients with a higher likelihood of having a particular disease-related endpoint, such as fewer ventilator-free days or higher mortality.  Identifying subphenotypes of ARDS patients at highest risk for poor outcomes may also lead to improved risk stratification at the bedside, allowing patients likely to benefit from earlier supportive care or transport to a higher level of care.  This presentation will highlight the many physiologic sub-phenotypes of ARDS, allowing standardization and early documentation for specific targeted ventilator management strategies.
