Rationing of ICU resources is inevitable in times of high demand given limited ICU capacity for beds, staff, and therapies, such as, ventilators and renal replacement devices. The issue is magnified during major crisis such as the recent COVID-19 pandemic, natural disasters, and events of mass casualty. This session is to explore factors and principles to be considered for rationing resources, and how to develop framework for triaging ICU resources and therapies such as a decision-making algorithm.
