This session will explore the epidemiology of firearm and knife violence through the eyes of ICU staff, both in the United States and worldwide. Speakers will discuss how much resources are spent on potentially avoidable ICU admission due to trauma and injuries caused by firearm and knife violence. Outcomes of patients with different substance misuse, such as mixed substances, party drugs, and emerging recreational substances, will be discussed. Managing patients with chronic pain in the context of the opioid epidemic will also be discussed.
