According to the CDC, 8 out of 10 COVID-19 deaths reported in the U.S. have been in adults age 65 and older; yet, the vast majority of older adults will survive COVID-19 infection. Despite the disproportionate impact of COVID on the older adult population, little is known about the long-term outcomes of older COVID survivors. This talk will explore published and ongoing studies of long-term outcomes after COVID, with a specific focus on the long-term outcomes of older adults. Findings from studies such as the NIA-funded VALIANT study (COVID-19 in Older Adults: a Longitudinal Assessment), a study of the long-term outcomes of older adults with severe COVID on which Dr. Ferrante is mPI, will be presented. Long-term outcomes among older COVID survivors will be discussed in the context of the other published literature on outcomes after COVID.
