One of the first steps in managing pediatric delirium is recognizing its presence. Reliable, valid instruments exist for this purpose and are described in this session. There are strong recommendations for using either the preschool and pediatric Confusion Assessment Methods for the ICU or the Cornell Assessment for Pediatric Delirium, which are reviewed here. Further described is the recommendation for routine screening for delirium.
