Critical Care Ultrasound: Adult* SOLD OUT

Time: 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Increase your ultrasound knowledge for critically ill adult patients with the Critical Care Ultrasound: Adult Smart Course. After studying the text and viewing the presentations online, attend this this full-day interactive skills session led by expert faculty with use of live models to provide the realistic training needed to perform and interpret ultrasound imaging. On completion, you will be able to immediately integrate your learned skills into clinical practice. Course participants can earn up to 17.5 hours of CE/ACE. MOC points are also available.

2023 Advanced Pharmacotherapy in Critical Care

Day 1 Time: 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Day 2 Time: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Examine how disease states and acute illnesses impact the effectiveness of pharmacologic treatments for various disease states and conditions during this two-day course led by highly skilled experts. This course also prepares pharmacy professionals for the Critical Care Pharmacy Specialty Examination administered by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties. Course participants can earn up to 15 hours of CE/ACE credit. BCCCP credits and MOC points are also available.

Airway and Mechanical Ventilation

Day 1 Time: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Day 2 Time: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Explore airway and mechanical ventilation management strategies for the critically ill patient during this two-day interactive course. Topics covered include airway assessment; emergent intubation; airway management pharmacology; rescue techniques for maintaining ventilation; traditional and novel techniques for difficult airway management in adult patients; and indications, contraindications, and benefits of ventilatory support modes. Attendees will learn and practice with expert faculty at interactive skill stations encompassing laryngoscopy, fiberoptic intubation, surgical approaches to airway establishment, and rescue strategies. Skill stations on mechanical ventilation will focus on mode selection, troubleshooting patient-ventilator dyssynchrony, and alternative modes available for the critically ill adult patient. Course participants can earn up to 15 hours of CE/ ACE credit. MOC points are also available.

ELSO Extracorporeal Membranous Oxygenation (ECMO) Simulation Course

Day 1 Time: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Day 2 Time: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Held in partnership with the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization

This two-day course is designed for learners who have completed the ELSO Virtual ECMO Training Course or for practitioners with a strong foundational knowledge of ECMO patient care. Using patient case scenarios, venoarterial and venovenous ECMO concepts are explored. In small group settings, participants have an opportunity for hands-on learning and troubleshooting of clinical cases. This is a great opportunity to apply the topics discussed in the multiday lecture series. This course is structured for multiprofessional learning at various stages of experience.

New! Fundamental Critical Care Support: Resource Limited 

Day 1 Time: 7:30 a.m. – 5:45 p.m.
Day 2 Time: 7:30 a.m. – 5:45 p.m.

Prepare nonintensivists and multiprofessional clinicians to treat critically ill and injured patients in resource-limited areas during this two-day course. Fundamental Critical Care Support (FCCS): Resource Limited addresses the unique challenges faced when the availability of equipment, supplies, or medications is limited and the impact these limitations have on providing critical care. Case-based skill stations complement the lectures and allow course participants to practice clinical scenarios. The course content covers recognition and assessment, shock and resuscitation, life-threatening infections, airway management, triage, analgesia and sedation, mechanical ventilation, and telemedicine. Course participants can earn up to 14.5 hours of CE/ACE credit.

New! Fundamental Critical Care Support: Surgical

Day 1 Time: 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Day 2 Time: 6:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Gain the training needed to provide initial care to critically ill surgical patients. This two-day course is designed for nonsurgical professionals and combines expert-developed presentations with interactive skill stations. The course augments and expands on Fundamental Critical Care Support core concepts, provides a deeper understanding of the pathophysiology of the seriously ill surgical patient, and addresses the needs of this patient population. The course content covers the recognition and assessment of the seriously ill patient, mechanical ventilation, surgical airway emergencies, abdominal emergencies, surgical soft tissue complications, and cardiovascular surgical emergencies. Course participants can earn up to 17 hours of CE/ACE credit.

Friday, January 20

Deep Dive: Post-Cardiac Arrest

Time: 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Review targeted temperature management and nuances of critical care management, including cardiac diagnostics, mechanical support, seizures, neuromonitoring, and prognostication, during this half-day course. Targeted to a wide array of critical care professionals, the course also addresses pharmacotherapy for the post-cardiac arrest patient and includes a panel discussion on clinical trials. A post-cardiac arrest survivor will also discuss her experience. Course participants can earn up to 3.75 hours of CE/ACE credit.

Deep Dive: Using Bundled Data in the EHR

Time: 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Electronic health record (EHR) data can be used to enhance clinical care and facilitate research. This half-day course offers strategies for using EHR data to inform clinical decision-making, identify barriers, and develop mitigation strategies. Real-life examples from the ICU will provide better understanding about how to effectively manage patients and resources. Course participants can earn up to 3.75 hours of CE/ACE credit.

NEW! Fundamental Critical Care Support: Crisis Management

Time: 7:30 a.m. – 5:15 p.m.

Fundamental Critical Care Support: Crisis Management (formerly Fundamental Disaster Management [FDM]) presents healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to manage the critical care response to large-scale disasters. During this one-day course, experts will review hazards specific to the ICU to allow optimal crisis planning and management; summarize the functional requirements of personnel, space, and equipment for the provision of crisis critical care; and review principles of optimal triage and care management in various natural and intentional disaster scenarios. This course is ideal for all clinicians who would like to better prepare themselves and their ICUs for crisis management. Course participants can earn up to 6.75 hours of CE/ACE credit.

Hemodynamic Monitoring Skills Course

Time: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Receive a comprehensive introduction to hemodynamic monitoring in critically ill patients during this one-day course that features dynamic presentations and interactive skill stations. Course content covers basic principles of hemodynamics and shock management, concepts of functional hemodynamic monitoring and assessment of fluid responsiveness, and cardiovascular pharmacology. Assessment of tissue perfusion, technical aspects of monitoring, and consideration of strengths and weaknesses of various invasive and noninvasive monitoring devices will also be discussed. Skill stations will focus on hemodynamic monitoring devices, such as noninvasive devices, invasive pulse volume devices, pulmonary artery catheters, and interactive cases in a “Choose Your Own Adventure” format. Course participants can earn up to 7.5 hours of CE/ACE credit.

Leadership and Management Skills to Enhance Your Professional Role

Time: 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Members of SCCM’s Leadership, Empowerment, and Development (LEAD) Committee will engage participants in a variety of didactic and small-group discussions focused on professional development. Gain valuable insights into mentorship, leadership, and workplace relationships that are specific to a career in critical care. Faculty will share their personal journeys related to serving as volunteers and leaders within SCCM, offering their perspectives about the personal and professional benefits, with a goal of developing engaged SCCM volunteers and future leaders. Course participants can earn up to 8.5 hours of CE/ACE credit.

Advanced Critical Care Ultrasound: Adult* SOLD OUT

Time: 7:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. or 11:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Expand your fundamental echocardiographic skills and knowledge through the Advanced Critical Care Ultrasound: Adult Smart Course. After studying the text and viewing the presentations online, attend this this half-day interactive skill session led by expert faculty with use of live models to provide the realistic training needed to perform and interpret ultrasound imaging. On completion, you will have a foundation of advanced ultrasound knowledge and will be able to demonstrate appropriate image interpretation and integration of advanced ultrasound studies. Course participants can earn up to 9.5 hours of CE/ACE credit. MOC points are also available.
